So I want to create an Autonum field ( like Access, or SQL ) for an oracle DB. I'm not sure there is even such a thing for oracle. is there? what workarounds can I do if it's not?

Thanks
Once I create the sequence how is it possible to use it on subsequent insert statements?

I guess what I don't understand is that ( as far as I know a sequence can only be used in the table creation stage )

What I need to do is create a unique number ID for each record in the DB.
( as far as I know a sequence can only be used in the table creation stage )
NO, you can use sequence at any stage, infact the whole sense of creating a sequence is to use it with "Inserts" to get a unique "id" for the field.

Before inserting a record, you access the value of sequence as:

select your_sequence_name.nextval from dual;

This is how you get the value for the next sequence.
