    Default Java script and Recordsets

What is the best way to determine if a Record Set has returned a value using JavaScript, what I want to achieve is depending on what value a user enters in a field, they may or may not have to enter a value in another field and if they need to I want to alert them to the fact.<BR><BR>Thanks in advance
