First off, let me apologise for a very poor question, I just couldn't seem to find the answer anywhere on the web...

Righty ho,

I have a table for example:

Name Type Price ...etc...
Banana 1 0.50
Peach 1 .......
Carrot 2 .......

(apologies for bad spacing, hope it looks not too bad)

Anyway, 'type' shows a code eg: 1 is fruit, 2 is vegetable and so on.
I want to have an SQL statement that shows me how many of each type there is in the table.

I can say SELECT SUM ...WHERE type = 1
and then run another statement for type = 2

but is there any way I can get one SQL statement to return the total produce of type 1 AND type 2? (Here I mean return 2 values, one for total count of items of type 1 and another for total count of items of type 2)

Thanks for reading!

p.s. this is for an ASP script in VBS running on IIS and SQL Server 7. I could leave it as two scripts, but for speeds sake I want to put them both in the same recordset.
