Since I've been writing some articles for this site, and eventually a few others, I'd like to hear some feedback from yous. I'm also in the midst of starting to teach concepts of programming languages to others here at work.

Do you prefer articles with code samples to be written in "kiddie" examples or real world apps? For example:

kiddie example (something you'd never write in real life)

public Class Animal
public Class Dog extends Animal //shows dog is a subset of an animal
private method speak()
write out "woof"

or examples that teach you how to solve real world problems -- though they may not necessarily apply to you (such as credit card validation or the like). Which is easier to understand and the most helpful? Which do you prefer when reading about concepts that are completely foreign to you at first? What about reading about things you are vaguely familar with?
