Default Downloading Files?

Is there a way to setup to force the browser to download a file. I have a lot of *.doc, *.txt, and *.wri files that I want users to download to their PC. However, when I setup the tag:

<a href="test.doc">Download File</a>

There are times that I get the download option and there are other times that I get the document to appear in the browser. It appears to all depend on the browser.

Can I force the download without using an FTP server?

Thanks

The best thing for you to do is zip those files if you can.
They will download much faster and you will avoid situations where the client has software that recognizes the file extension.

Rob
