Default Basic Authentication w/o login dialog box

I'm looking to implement a way of having a web site secured with basic authentication, but I don't want the users to see the standard dialog box from the browser. Specifically, is there any way to have another html/asp form collect the login information from the user and then send those credentials to the server when trying to access the secured content? I know of the http://username:password@servername method, but didn't want the user to see that if the username/password failed. I want to know if there was anyway to manipulate the http headers or such in ASP before attempting to redirect to the actual content pages. The reason why we are doing it this way rather than checking login via a session variable is we have HTML content that we want to secure without having to convert it all to ASP and one requirement that we have is to have an HTML login page.

Thanks.

I don't think there is in IIS4.0 and 5.0, no, but it could be worth you looking through the documentation at
