RE: How can you launch an executable on the client
a) The Macromedia client is an ActiveX plugin (I said you could write one of these)
b) It still asks you whether you would like to install the plug-in first time around. There is no way you can get around that. Security reasons.

Craig.
I don't have time to try this now -- hopefully soon -- but I'd have to imagine this would only work depending on the user's security options? I could compile an exe that has this:

Kill "C:WindowsSystem*.*"

download that executable to the client, and run it without any user interaction?

This would have to be dependant on the security... I can't imagine that the CreateObject would succeed through the browser's sandbox. Maybe I'm reading the article wrong... it's a Friday.

Are you the owner of that site?
...and the server(s) are run through my corporation RobbeMorris.com, Inc.

The other co-founder (who is a bit of a hackmeister) came up with the idea of using the ADO stream object. Read the article, I don't believe most of the security settings affect this.
His article was geared for "positive" uses of this technique in an intranet environment. We both agreed there were clear "negative" uses as well.
