Default Database Locking

I'm using access for my asp site, as there won't be very many concurrent users. However, I am concerned when it comes to Database integrity in situations with concurrent users. Do I need to specifically code in database locking, whether row or table locking? I currently use queries to modify data in the database, not recordsets.
Also, if locking is needed, should i then use Access 2000's MSDE Engine or the Jet Database engine? Is there a difference when implementing either in my application? I currently use Access 97, so i'm not sure about upgrades.
