Default Searching through Tables

I want to search a database for a certain string containing value entered by users. I know how to search with SQL by comparing the string to the data in all seperate fields in a table, but that way I get gigantic SQL statements. Isn't it possible to search with only the table name and not all fields seperately?

Thanks.

One way is concatenating all the fields and have a single big field and apply LIKE.
If it is SQL 7.0 you can use Full text catalog index search. To do this you have to build the full text catalog with all the fields you want and you have to populate the catalog [All can be done in few clicks].
