Hi,
I've been checking out home automation controllers and want to integrate them into the web so I can check temp, turn on/off lights etc etc. Since almost all of them have external hardware interfaces connected to RS232, I'd like to know how I can access the serial port to send both ASCII and binary data?

By access I mean, open, write (and or read) and maybe close :-)

Since the hardware interfaces do all the tricky stuff I don't need to be concerned with latency, timing or other RTC stuff.

PS: Most of the "software" around, uses extremely gaudy GUIs with very idosyncratic features and reeks of amature!

Thanks in advance.
