Default RecordSet.RecordCount Problem

When I open my RecordSet then try to set a Dim'ed variable to RecordSet.RecordCount I continuously get a value of -1 no matter how many records exist. I have identical connection and RecordSet code (different SQLStmt though) that runs in other files and gives me the correct count on the RecordSet. Anyone have a suggestion as to what I might have going on here?

Thanks
