ive messed with access for i while, but need sql server for a web project. Is it difficult to switch to and manage? Can a newcomer like me lay down the basics, or do i need to get a database person? <BR>many thanks...

Basically you can throw most of your queries that you have used with access at SQLServer and they will work with little or no modification. There are a few things. With date you no longer user the # character to enclose dates.<BR><BR>If you want to make take advantage of the full power of MS Sql you may have get to know Stored Proceedures.
