Default Performance Issue: Updating a Table

IF I have a form with sixteen text boxes, which can be changed each time the form is submitted, which is better

just overwriting whatever in the table with whatever is on the ofrm

or check the table against the form each time it is submitted and then updating fields only if and where the two don't match?

Will one be less work than the other?

Only updating what's changed: Easier on the DB, more work for you.

Updating the whole record: Easier for you, a little more work for the DB. How busy is the site? Will that extra little bit of time updating the whole record cause a problem? I would guess no, but I could be mistaken.
