why is servervariables("AUTH_USER") not returning the user on the network(Win NT) on Windows 2000. It was earlier obeying the command on Windows 98.

If the directory holding your web pages isn't set to use NT Challenge Response then users are accessing the web pages using the generic INET_USR or Annonymous (or whatever it's called). Using IIS manager set the security on that directory up to use NT Challenge Response that way NT asks users of the web page for their NT name and then the server knows who they are....and will return same when asked. Don't confuse the Win98 and NT security models.....worlds apart.
