Default Refreshing

I have seen a live auction site where, when someone else makes a bid it refreshes your browser and updates a table displaying the bids. This is not done using a meta tag refresh. It does not happen regularly - it happens when someone bids. How is this done?

    Well,

if they are cool, its done with a server and some push technology.

in asp, the simplest way to reach that effect...Hidden Frame,
application object.
you would probably have the page in a frame for the blah, blah
on what you are selling,
then have a frame with the bids, and then at
specified time intervals, have the hidden frame "poll the server" and do a refresh.

Thats a way, but there are more and better ways that I am not privy too, you could use remote scripting as well, although, i don't know what that would bring to the table.

It's definitely not done at specified time intervals - it happens when someone bids. How?
