    Default Not always

    Not if you set rs = nothing or close or destroy the connection. Under those conditions, it will be closed automatically.

    Default a response I read from Mike S

    Do both. Not only is it good programming practice, but without doing the close you may upset connection pooling (Oracle, for instance).
