Default a GUI question

    Hi there,
Does anyone know the original purpose of what the <input type="reset"> button is for? I recently filled in a lenghty survey form, and when I tried to submit it, I accidentally clicked the reset button instead of the submit button. It then occurred to me - what good is that button for? Is there certain standards on when this button is to be used?

    Jakob Nielsen, usability vulture, recommends using

<input type="button" value="cancel" onclick="self.history.go(-1)" />

the reset button isn't particularly useful in a GUI except in certain circumstances which are getting ever more rare. it's a throwback to the olden days of HTML....

j

j
