Ok first thing you have to check it...not just THINK that is what it does<BR><BR><BR>have you tried asving more than 16 char into a text Db...Well it MAY appear that it can only save 16 char cause when you do a sp_help it says Length is 16...This is more a bug if you could call it that.<BR><BR>you can just party with text as in in terms of length<BR><BR>now if you thing it will not be that hudge...i would suggest only a varchar DT and NOT a text...it is faster when querying and does not take much space compared to text
16 length in the Text field is not a bug. MS SQL Server does not store Text, NText, and Image data on the same 8 k page(s) that the rest of a record is stored in. The Text data is stored in a seperate page used for storing text/image data. The 16 in the length represents the 16 byte pointer information used to keep track of the actual Text values location. In other words, although you could be storing data far in excess of the 16 byte length, only 16 bytes worth of data is stored w/ the record, while the actual text data is stored seperatly.
