Default database insertion problem

I am having problems inserting data into my access database.
The problem occurs after i submit a form, whos data is to be added. The responding page, which is an asp page, comes up with the error telling me that variable i am trying to insert is a zero length string.
I know what this means, but have checked my code over and over and cant see how this could be occuring.
What are some ways to solve this problem?

    1. set your database up to allow null values.
2. validate the entries to ensure zero-length entries are disallowed, alerted and re-entered

j
