Default Locking a database

I have a web page that adds records to a database. It also changes records in the database. More than one user can be doing both. When someone is changing the records, I don&#039t want anyone to be able to add a record. How can I do this?

Thanks!
Erica

I&#039m not sure what you mean by R&D locking. If I wanted to lock the whole table, would the user get an error when they tried to add something? Also, how would I unlock it?

Thanks!
Erica
