Default Question about the Ad Rotator program

    Good mornin all!

Yesterday, I stumbled upon, and quickly put up, the Ad Rotator program graciously supplied here in 4guysfromrolla. I love it! However, there is a problem I am having with this program. Let me tell you that I did look it over carefully first and have implemented it exactly as written.

The problem: though it does display all of the banners (actually, you must refresh the page or re-enter before it changes an ad), when I click on the image to be taken to the url I have supplied, it does not go to that site! It does, however, take me to a completely different asp page that is in the same directory as the ad script! What?

Let me show you the few lines of code for rotateAds.asp:

<% Dim ad
Set ad = Server.CreateObject("MSWC.AdRotator")

Respo nse.Write(ad.GetAdvertisement("rotateAds.txt"))
%>

This is just as it is supplied in the example.

Now let me show you the few lines of code for the rotateAds.txt:

REDIRECT
WIDTH 460
HEIGHT 75
BORDER 2
*
http://www.net1plus.com/users/wzjn/images/banner1.gif
http://www.net1plus.com/users/wzjn
Redirect me back to WZJN!
50
http://www.net1plus.com/users/wzjn/images/banner2.gif
http://www.4guysfromrolla.com
Redirect me back to 4guysfromrolla!
30
http://www.net1plus.com/users/wzjn/images/banner3.gif
http://www.webmonkey.com
Redirect me back to the WebMonkey!
20

Now, the REDIRECT statement is not filled in because the documentation mentions that unless I want to keep track of stats, I don&#039t really need it. My understanding is that when I click on an add, I will be taken to the site listed for that gif. However, as I mention above, that is not the case. I can see a very long http string displayed on the bottom bar of my browser!

That http string begins with the URL of the site I am testing on and not the URL of the ad site!

Can anyone tell me what I am obviously missing? I do so appreciate any help at all - I just want a successful first example from this awesome site!

Thank you to all!

WZJN

Don&#039t have that REDIRECT line in there at all. That is used to redirect you to a page on your site that can be used to keep track of statistics and stuff. Just get rid of that line in your ad rotator file.

Hi There - I can&#039t thank you enough for your time!

Well, I did remove the REDIRECT statement and I still get the exact same result - a click on the banner does not bring me to the site!

If you have time (yea - sure) - here is the address where I am testing this out:

http://www.worcestercounty.com/users/rotateAds.asp

You will see that when your mouse is hovering over the ad, the URL that is showing up on the bottom bar starts with ?urlhttp://www.thesite.com&image=http:// ... and so on.

I feel that it should only be showing http://www.thesite.com - and nothing more! This seems so simple, but what the????

Again, I thank you all for your time and assistance!

WZJN
