I wonder if anyone can help me with this problem; I&#039ll admit it&#039s not strictly ASP. I&#039m currently coding an e-commerce site, with shopping cart, secure ordering etc. and for security I want to record the IP address of all people who submit orders (don&#039t worry, theres a big warning telling people I&#039m recording their IP).

The problem is: the REMOTE_HOST variable records the IP of the machine connecting to the web server - and if the visitor is connecting through a proxy server it will record the IP address of their ISP&#039s proxy server rather than their own machine. I run through a proxy myself, and I&#039ve noticed that some sites ARE able to see through the proxy and record my actual IP address when I buy things online. How is this achieved?

Grant Williamson
