I want to run a query in SQL Server 7 to update values in one table with values in another table: i.e. table1 has a "Specialist" field and a "SpeciaistID" field which is empty and table2 has "Specialist" and a "SpecialistID" field which is an identity field. table2 is created by selecting DISTINCT Specialists from table1 so now all I want to do is change table1 so it stores the ID rather than the name. Problem: I can run this query in Access but for the life of me can't get SQL to accept the syntax - doesn't like the join. According to SQL documentation I can change the query type in the Enterprise manager to UPDATE but this option is not appearing in my Enterprise manager. Can anyone help either with the correct syntax or with how I can change the query type in Enterprise Manager?
