    Default shortening a string

    im trying to figure out how to shorten a long string before i assign it to a variable, i want to take a sentance of say, 100 characters, and chop off all but the first 30 characters, then assign it to a variable - if anybody knows of a way to do this it would be most helpfull<BR>Thanks in advance, JH

    &#060;%<BR>newstring = left(oldstring, 30)<BR>%&#062;<BR><BR>That will assign the first 30 chars of oldstring to newstring.

    Thanks, I almost feel like thats too easy, - isnt there a more difficult way to do it? (j.k.)
