Default Fixing database holes

This is actually an Access question, more then an ASP one, but I figurue someone out there can probably help me.

One of my databases contains an automatic number as one of its variables. When I have to go in and delete data a number is sometimes removed and therefor a whole is left in the numbering system. Because of this I can&#039t get an accurate count of the number of entires or display a random entry on my page. (This is a database of quotations by the way). I was just wondering if there is anyway to enter one of the missing numbers in the automatic numbering column when I enter new quotes. I tried, but it will only allow me to put the automatic number it has already selected.

Nope. With autonumber fields, you&#039re stuck with the next value and the resulting holes when you zap records in the middle of the table.
