How do i return a specific number of fields from a column.

You see, in my database table i have several columns. Some have 10 fields filled in while others will have less.
Example:
Electronics Food Clothes
----------- ----- -------
1 1 1
2 2 2
3 3 3
4 4
5

Notice how the food and clothes columns have empty fields.
When i try to return the records from only the "food" column i&#039ll get the first 3 records and then 2 empty spaces because the majority is 5. How do i eliminate those spaces so that only the first 3 records are displayed?

I hope i explained this clearly.

Thanks
