Every once in a while, my IIS 4.0 will not serve pages anymore. The services are all running and I can get into MMC and make changes, etc, but I can't access the site. Has anyone encountered anything like this before?
The only time IIS4.0 locks up real good is when your script has an infinite loop in it. Even once the user closes his browser, the server is still out in space with the loop.<BR><BR>If it's not, then there's a bigger prob with IIS4.0 which i myself have never seen. All i can say is Good luck!
Does the server have anything else running on the same machine, e.g. SQL Server which could be using up all the resources. I have this problem if I am making changes to my IIS logs which are stored in a SQL Server Database on the same machine as IIS. I've also experienced an intermittent problem with all the services stopping in IIS (nothing in the Event Log at all). You can restart them by right click Start and everything is fine. Very strange !
We had problems a year ago after installing IE5.0 on web servers then attempting to use slightly out of date Oracle ODBC drivers. Our boxes stopped processes ASP pages, but it would still server HTML just fine. After re-installing NT without IE5.0, things have been great since.
