Default Multiuser Handling - ACCESS DATABASE

Hi, I have a table (access) where serial numbers are stored. This table is used to automatically email a serial number from it when a user is authanticated to a certain process. Once a number is used it will be excluded from the available serial numbers by adding "USED" to the "Status" field. My concern is if two user access the table at the same time, the same serial numbers will be given to the recordset generted by "Select * from X where STATUS = 'NotUsed'" and therefore two users might get the same serial number. How can I avoid this. Please note I use ASP pages to access the database.

Thanks in advance
