## Bank Holiday Problem

I've built web application which deals with the requesting/authorising of holidays within our company. Unfortunately, I've overlooked something which has just been pointed out - BANK HOLIDAYS!

I could quite easily have someone enter the bank holidays for the year into a table and check against that, but I'd prefer a way to do it programatically.

I've heard of something called the Carter algorithm which calculates the date of easter between 1900 and 2099 but I'm not sure if this could be used to calculate other holidays.

Any help would be appreciated.

Pete.

OK - I phrased that a bit daft. It's probably not possible to calculate the bank holidays. I would have thought there would be an online resource, though, which would be queryable. If there isn't, then someone should really think about setting it up.
If there isn't, then someone should really think about setting it up.
Because it's then their problem to update and maintain it and not yours?!

;-)

Now, if it was a pay-per-use resource, I'd consider setting up a web service for it, but I'd need to make it worth my while to update each annum.

Craig.

## RE: Bank Holiday Problem

Heh! Yeah - the pay per use was definitely on my mind.

It looks like most people use db tables and update them when they need to. My date difference calculation is done in vbscript in the page, so I'm thinking of putting an array of dates as an application variable, (0101,BH;0201,WD;0301,WD...) where BH=Bank Holiday and WD=Work Day. I just can't help thinking that looping through that's gonna have an overhead I don't want. Maybe just selecting bank holidays from a table in the db would be the best idea.

I'm looking to build a holiday request database for my companies intranet (line managers authorisation etc). Could you give me some pointers as to where I might start finding what code I need to build this with .net?

Thanks in advance.

## Actually, most holidays..

.. ARE calculatable, with a handful of exceptions.

I've long thought about setting up a service to do just that.

:-)

US Holidays on my calendar at ourfamilyheart.com.
