How can i store Japanese characters in the SQL 2000 database. I made the table and i put Datatype as nchar for the field names. I am harcoding japanese characters in the table. It shows as square boxes.
Best bet is to GOOGLE that answer. If I understand correctly, you can set your SQL Server field to unicode encode, but if that hasn't worked for you, maybe you can first convert each character to its unicode value.

Sorry, have to go home for the night. Good luck
You might be getting the Japanese characters into the DB just fine, but you might be trying to display the contents of the DB via a mechanism that isn't paying attention to the CodePage and/or has the wrong CodePage and/or isn't equipped to show unicode characters.

on my asp page i am using <% Session.Codepage = 932 %>
when i get the info from the database it show up like this N'???i?÷Ž'
???i?÷Ž

in the database it shows÷Ž÷Ž÷Ž÷Ž÷Ž÷Ž but weird whn i pasted that thing right now in the response text it showed up in japanese »•iî•ñ

What am i doing wrong
it shows the japanese when i click on VIEW menu. Click on ENCODING menu item. Select JAPANESE as the preferred encoding.
Shouldn't it show automatically when the page loads instead of changing the settings everytime.
...you set the text encoding in the response header. Yeah, if you have chosen Japanese as your preferred encoding, it should stay there. But evidently something on that page (or a preceding page?) is resetting the encoding. Okay, so just force it back to Japanese.
