I have read many of the posts regarding this issue, none have ultimately come up with answers. I saw something I might try in one of the posts but did not understand how to do it. How do I "try" DBCC REINDEX or DBCC INDEXREFRAG.

More history:
simple update query in 3000 record table times out on ASP page and takes 1 minute 16 seconds to run in Query Analyzer. I know I can set the timeout expired in ASP etc, etc. But problem is really that it absolutely should not take 1 minute to run.

To complicate: It took 1 minute 16 secs in QA 1st time around; subsequently it ran in a fraction of a second. Also in ASP problem is intermittent.

SQL: Update Users Set PageLen = 25, SearchType = 8 where username = 'jdoe'
username field is primary key. only 3000 records in table.

As I mentioned before, i saw in a previous post that if indexing had already been done try that DBCC stuff. How and where do I do that? Thanks for any help!!!
