I am using xml files as data storage on client machine. i want these XML files to be Password protected. How can i do it. My application will run on all windows platforms ( ie. 98/2000,XP,NT 4/ Adv server 2003 etc..
XML files are plain-text. You cannot password-protect plain-text files. There's no place in the definition of a "plain text" file to hold that kind of information.

The only thing you can do is enforce disk-based permissions (a-la NFTS or whatever), or you can encrypt the data that's held in those XML files.

Technically XML files have to be plain-text (in order to class as XML), but the content they contain can be UU-encoded and encrypted in whatever manner you can think of.

Craig.
