I'm working through sam's teach yourself asp.net in 21 days and finding it really great, but I've come across a couple of problems.

1. When compiling custom controls I have to specify the full path for vbc.exe even though I've altered the PATH environment variable to include this path.

2. The first example, I just can't get to work. I've compiled the following into the bin directory in wwwroot (I'm using a different location for my websites, so I've also compiled it to the bin directory there as well just to be sure). This is the code for the example:

Imports System
Imports System.Web
Imports System.Web.UI

Namespace MyCustomcontrols
Public Class CustomControl1 : Inherits Control
Protected Overrides Sub Render(Output as HtmlTextWriter)
Output.Write("This is my custom control! The time is now " & DateTime.Now.ToString)
End Sub
End Class
End Namespace

I'm attempting to include this in my aspx page like this:

<%@ Page Language="VB" ContentType="text/html" ResponseEncoding="iso-8859-1" %>
<@ Register TagPrefix="ACME" Namespace="MyCustomControls" Assembly="CustomControls" %>

Untitled Document

The custom control produces the following ouitput:

<ACME:CustomControl1 id="MyControl" runat="server" />

However I'm getting told that ACME:CustomControl1 is an unknown server tag.

There's no explanation in the book for what to look for if it doesn't work and I really can't see anything I've done differently from what it says.

Can anyone help?
