    Default Special Characters in SQL

There are form fields that users can enter in text and when they submit the page it gets written into the database. The problem I have is this: If they insert a multiple spaces, an  (non breaking space HTML) is inserted. Say for the indention of the beginning of a paragraph. There tends to be one problem though, SQL doesn't just insert this as a space. When trying to find the spaces it does not view this as your normal space, although that is what it looks like. I need to remove that space(special character) because it is causing problems. Does anyone have any idea how or what this special character is? It really messes up XML that is generated from the SQL db as it see it as an "invalid character". Thanks for any help.
