Default RegExp theory ?

I have to run a RexExp on a page of text at least 7 times to clear it up (this is a slow process). One of my patterns is using at least 30 *or's* (&#124). Is it faster to use more calls with less "or's" or use less calls with longer strings (or's)?

Also I have calling a function that opnes and closes the RegExp each time. Should I keep it open for all five and then close it?

Thank you,
jc

Default Digory is the expert on this...

...even people at MS cite his stuff.

He haunts the Reg Exp forum here. Or you can look for him via
