Default Check the version of a DLL on a users PC via ASP

    Hi,

I have been struggling to find a way to write a ASP page which can check the version of a DLL sitting locally on the USERS PC not on the Server running IIS.

I can assume I know what directory the DLL will be in for any user that visit's the web page.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

TD
Default Not possible, and not advanced.

ASP is a server-side technology. It executes on the server. Nothing ever gets to the client. Therefore it's impossible to directly interact with the client's PC using ASP.

This is a basic client-server problem. If you need more information, perhaps you could have a quick read through the "Nature Of Things" category in the ASPFAQs, that may clear a few things up.

Your only option would be to write a client-side ActiveX component that would sit in the HTML page a client downloaded. That ActiveX component (subject to the security restrictions placed on it by the client) could probably check DLL versions.

Craig.
