    Default Rookie Question

I've been developing in Delphi since its inception, and have created a fair number of ASP applications as well. Clearly it's time to move to ASP.NET and C#. I've installed Web Matrix, but I need to get a "real" development tool, like Visual Studio or the standalone C# compiler. Visual Studio seems like overkill, since I don't see myself developing in any of the other languages it offers. The question is, if I go cheap for the standalone C# compiler ($100), will I hate myself in the morning? What will I miss taking this route?

VStudio comes in many "flavours", from the single language versions (VB or C#) at around $100 to the everything versions that cost much more.<BR><BR>There are some learning/book packages that include a single language version (check amazon)
