this is very confusing but I'd download the .net framework and play around with webmatrix (The free asp.net ide by microsoft). You can downlowd web matrix from www.asp.net. As far as books, I'm looking for a good one myself. But I can tell you, do not buy Oreilly's "Programming Asp.net". This book to me has been so cluttered and not organized very well, I think there are better books out there.
