Default How do I use this JScript variable?

    I have a line where I want to put a variable declared in client side JScript. On the basis that I have executed a procedure and given a variable called CallString a value, how can I say that src= CallString in the following line of code. CallString is the name of an asp page that I want the src set to. I need to do this clientside so can't put it in <%%> tags I don't think. Call string passes different values depending on which button a user clicks elsewhere on my page. Am I right in thinking that because the server side code is executed first that I need to assign a value to this variable clientside?
Hope someone can help, Thanks in advance.

<input type="image" border="0" name="imageField" src="" width="640" height="480">

    <script language=javascript>
document.forms.imageF ield.src = CallString;
</script>

*note this must run after the input appears on the screen, so perhaps triggered by onLoad.
