## Question for Bill Wilkinson regarding comparing tw

Bill:

Here is the orginal question, your response and my response to your response.

Original Question:

I am trying to create a service announcement page that checks the hire_date of employees, in tblStaff, against the current date and check their length of service to see if it is 3, 5, 10 or 20+ years. Those employees that fall into these service categories get written to the page. I am new to ASP and would appreciate any and all help getting me started.

Thanks.

/////////////

Your response:

...you want the people with *exactly* 3 years of service (but not 4) on a page?

Or even *exactly* 3 years of service, *to the day*?

Or do you mean you want people with >= 3 yrs but < 5 to one page,
with >= 5 but < 10 to another page,
with >= 10 but < 20 to a third,
>= 20 to a fourth?

Or what?
//////////////

My response to you:

It would be exactly 3, 5 and 10 years and 20 or more years that I would be checking for. All employees that meet this criteria would be written to the same page, just on a different row.

The service information is generated for a given month, so I don't know if it would be easier to check for the service dates 'to the date' or 'for the month'

I would appreciate your help working through this problem.

Thanks.

## One more time...

Okay, so to make an example:

In June, you want to see all people who (a) were first hired in June and (b) whose "anniversary" with the company is the 3rd, 5th, 10th, and then *every* anniversary 20 or more?

You say "written to the same page". Do you mean that there would be 4 different Web pages, one for each of those categories? [It's okay if it's all one URL, with NEXT and PREVIOUS links, that still counts as 4 pages for this question.] Or are you talking about how the results would get printed?
