I need to be able to generate a garunteed unique number every time someone visits a page. Its going to be used as part of a digital signature for an insurance form.

I figured I would just take their SSN along with the current date and time and encrypt it, then remove the "-".
It worked just fine but with one little flaw: the number was long as hell.
I was using MD5 encryption. Is there a shorter encryption (i.e. 16 bit) in .net or is there another way of doing the required task above?

Help me.
Anyone? Beuller?
