    Default SQL CHAR(5000), to much?

    We have sql7 and a value that can be up to 5000 chars long. Is this something that is acceptable for a char data type? Should I look at using another type when dealing with data this large?<BR><BR>Thanks in advance.<BR>

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/tsqlref/ts_ca-co_7tpu.asp<BR><BR>Just remember: There is a max size of 8000 *bytes* total for a single Record in SQL Server. Not including TEXT and NTEXT and the ilk.<BR><BR>
