Why doesn&#039t this work?

if FIELD_IN_DATABASE = "%" then
response.write "whatever"
end if

What I want to do is the following: If FIELD_IN_DATABASE contains something (I don&#039t care what), it should print out "whatever".

The script works when I specify, say, the value "test" instead of the wildcard "%" (and change the database accordingly). It doesn&#039t work if I change the database field to, for example, "testrest" and the script to "test%".
You might want to try comparing your field to Null or Empty string("").

If not(IsNull(FIELD_IN_DATABASE) or FIELD_IN_DATABASE="") then
Response.write "Whatever"
end if
