## looping through averages, need average of these

In my loop statements I am calculating subtotals on amounts which seems easy by just doing stuff like: subtot=subtot + newamount (at the end of the looping, subtot is my subtotal)

but one of my variables is an average so... I would like to loop through all the iterations and get an average of the averages. Can you show me how this is done?
er.. can it be done?

total = 0
do while..
total = total + subtotal
loop

## There is nothing intrinsically different

about an average of averages ... it doesn't mean a whole lot tho. You need to do some kind of scaling.

For example, if one set has an average of 15 with 100 entries each randomly between 10 and 20, it is (in some sense) more "accurate" than an Average of 15 with 10 entries randomly scattered between 1 and 30.
## Doesn't he want Standard Deviation

then? His "average of averages"?

## Hmmmm....maybe, but there DOES

exist such a notion at the average of averages and it doesn't have much to do with the StdDeviation .... In fact, I'm not sure that you could DO std dev between datasets ... maybe tho, I'm REAL dangerous with statistics.

I ran into the Mode of the Means in a JAMA article once. But the article was on Zen reducing cholesterol counts so who the hell knows if that meant anything...
