Make sure it is enclosed in single quotes...If you are using inline...

SQL = "Update SomeTableName SET SomeField = '" & Request.Form("SomeFormElement") & "'"

The same will be true of the insert...

KLC
Can you repeat the question please or be more specific!

BEGIN QUOTE
"How do i insert or update a field "
END QUOTE

You're obviously talking about a batabase since you're using the words insert, update and field?

Well to answer your first question, you must use an SQL QUERY such as :
INSERT INTO TableName ....
UPDATE SET ....

NOTE: For more information on how to build SQL Queries:
1) Search google.com
2) Buy an SQL Book

Hope this helps!
Sincerely

Vlince
Hi,I am creating a online b2b website.i need to insert and update values.For eg.If i have a field country and you need to enter a value.say "Andamans and Nicobar"...Insertion and update works fine...but at the backend Only "Andamans" is stored.
I'm using Access as my backend dbase.and the code goes like this...Have used functions...
<% Sub updateCategory
what=request.QueryString("what")
categor=Request.Form("txtcategory")
Response.write(categor)
id=Request.Querystring("id")
Con.Execute "Update Categorys Set Category='"& categor &"' where CategoryId="& id &""
Response.Redirect ("http://localhost/Admin/addthen.asp?what=upCategory")
End Sub
%>
Sorry got a bit confused...In the back end insertion works fine...For updation i select a category id...and corresponding field is displayed.
For eg... i have inserted a value for category as "LG CD Player"
and in the back end it is stored as it is.When i want to update it to "LG CD recorder" i go click on the category id so that the corresponding Category would be displayed for editing.It should display "LG CD Player".but it displays only "LG".
