Well, I just tried to run the installation wizard for SQL Server 2000 on XP Prf and was prompted that it is not compatible and ONLY client components will be installed. (I did not complete the install)

Will the Client Components be sufficient to create and manage databases?

I am a newbie in setting up a SQL db. Any advice would be appreciated.
sufficient Privileges to install the complete SQL Server on your machine. If you install the client component only, you will still need to point to some database server where you can store your database.

Clients are good only for creating objects but where will you store the object, if you do not have a server.

What I would do is,
Give the logged in user(if you are not already logged in as an administrator on the XP machine) administrator rights on the machine. Then try to install SQL Server.

This should work.

~Roy
