I have a table that has a id (pk) column and a reviews column that is text(16). I need a way to input and read the text. When reviews was a varchar it worked great but now I have reviews that are hitting way over the 8000 limit so text is what I need.

When I try and read the text field from my SP I have something like...

CREATE PROCEDURE ReviewsGetDetails
(
@id_review int,
@review text OUTPUT
)
AS
SELECT
@review = reviews.review
FROM
reviews
WHERE
reviews.id_review = @id_review

...but it gives me a 409 error when I try and save that. So I have been reading up on text and I guess it isn't as easy as just pulling it out like a varchar.

I am reading stuff on READTEXT and TXTPTR but it is confusing me. Can anyone tell me how this SP should look? The examples I found never seem to set the text to a @variable in the SP, they all look like classic ASP examples where you would loop through a record set...but I don't want to do that. I want to set a parameter so my asp.net code can use that parameter like I am used to.

Is that possible? If there is a way to make that work I am then wondering how I do UPDATE/INSERTS as well.
