Hey all. I just wanted to be sure if this would be the correct way to allow the user to sort items in a table by clicking a Up/Down button on the webpage:
I have a Resources table. Items are listed in a top-down fashion on the webpage. The user can click a button beside each item to move it up or down, effectively sorting the records. A more complex problem arises because each item can be listed under a certain "Header" that the user creates himself. Items should only be sorted within their respective header. This is what I have for table design:
Resources Table
- ResourceID
- ResourceName
- ...a bunch more Resource-related stuff
- ResourceSortID (relates to ResourceID of ResourceSort Table)
ResourceSort Table
- ResourceSortID
- ResourceSortNum
- HeaderSortNum

Can I make that work? Or do I need an entirely different table for the headers? This is a lot more complex than I thought it would (should?) be. Thanks for your help.
~~Chaotix

PS - I have noticed many different ways to access databases while cruising this forum. Like the rs.addnew() method in the post below... is it better than using rs.open or Set rs = conn.execute(sql)? Just curious. What is the difference?
