Default Speed of application variables

We are currently using the ASP Application object extensively on our systems to cache pre generated HTML in memory, avoiding multiple Com/DB calls - the HTML is usually expensive to create and is used frequently.

Great stuff you might say - however...

We are currently storing around 4Mb(!) of HTML in application variables in over 16,000(!) different variables and are noticing that the speed of retrieving items from the cache has slowed - which is rather unsuprising.

I can't seem to find any documentation as to how much stuff we can realistically wedge into the cache before the key/value lookup in the application object falls apart.

Any information on how you've got on with abusing the application object would be welcome - and perhaps information on 3rd party caching objects (other than ASPCache, I've looked already!).

Thanks

Stu Cam

slc@od2.com
