from this post. It didn't make a great deal of sense to me as to what they are trying to achieve. Specifically referencing binary datatypes...<BR><BR>ASP only understands variants. There is no need for the datatype conversion unless you are evaluating the variable or passing it to another COM object that needs a specific datatype.

then you are doing a case insensitive comparison<BR><BR><BR>upper("abcd") = upper("AbcD")<BR><BR>but if you convert to bianary that will return false<BR><BR>convert(varbianary, "abcd") <> convert(varbianary, "AbcD")<BR><BR>
